My first real 5-axis part on the UMC
We finally cut the first real 5-axis CNC part on the Haas UMC. We use Autodesk Fusion for CAD, CAM, and 5-axis simulation. This video walks through the setup, the toolpaths, and what it took to get a real part off the machine.
First real 5-axis part on the UMC
There is a big difference between proving that a 5-axis machine moves and trusting it enough to make an actual part. In the video we get into the practical side of the first real run: setup, tool access, part clearance, and checking the cut as it goes.
- Getting the part held correctly on the UMC
- Programming and simulating the 5-axis toolpaths in Autodesk Fusion
- Watching for clearance and coolant/chip issues during the run
- Inspecting the finished part after machining
Gimbel CoolantClear™
In the video we install a pre-production Gimbel CoolantClear™ rotary viewing window that Gimbel gave us to use, and all the video content definitely benefits from such a clear view cutting through the coolant spray to the part. They are a considerable amount cheaper than other brands.
Install on the current Gen II models should be a snap without the need for sealant. If you are interested use our code PORTLAND5 to get a discount.
